Sudhakar Ramakrishna will assume the CDK CEO role on October 5, succeeding Brian MacDonald.

Sudhakar Ramakrishna will assume the role of President and Chief Executive Officer of CDK, the leading automotive-retail software provider, effective October 5. He also joins the company’s Board of Directors, succeeding Brian MacDonald after the latter’s retirement.

Leadership transition

MacDonald will step down from his executive duties but will remain a senior strategic advisor to Brookfield and CDK, offering continuity as the firm guides its next growth phase.

Doug Bayerd, Managing Partner in Brookfield’s Private Equity Group and Director on CDK’s Board, expressed gratitude for MacDonald’s contributions: “We are grateful to Brian for his leadership and the lasting impact he has had on CDK. He returned to the company at an important moment and led a transformation that strengthened CDK’s strategy, product roadmap and financial foundation.”

Bayerd added that Ramakrishna’s appointment represents the next chapter: “Sudhakar is the right leader to build on that foundation. His experience leading technology organizations, scaling innovation and commercializing customer-centric products makes him well suited to advance CDK’s momentum and help its customers succeed in a changing automotive environment.”

Ramakrishna’s background

Before joining CDK, Ramakrishna served as President and CEO of SolarWinds, guiding the infrastructure-management software firm through complex challenges while expanding its innovation pipeline.

Earlier, he led Pulse Secure as CEO, working with customers and partners in mission-critical environments to ensure secure, reliable operations.

His résumé also includes senior positions at Citrix, Polycom, Motorola, 3Com and U.S. Robotics, where he consistently linked technology advances to market needs.

CDK’s recent investments

Over the past several years, CDK has invested more than $500 million to shift its platform from a traditional system of record to a system of intelligence and engagement.

The company now leverages data on 257 million unique customer IDs, covering most U.S. consumers and vehicles, to fuel artificial-intelligence models, analytics and insight tools.

Embedding this intelligence directly into dealer workflows allows retailers to adopt new capabilities without disrupting existing processes.

CEO’s early remarks

In his first public statement, Ramakrishna said, “CDK has the people, scale, expertise and product depth to help customers get more from the solutions they rely on to operate their businesses. Our opportunity is to deliver more customer value and success through innovation, disciplined execution and reliable delivery. I look forward to spending time with our customers, learning from our teams and partners, and carrying forward our commitment to earning the industry’s trust every day.”

Industry context

The automotive retail sector is undergoing rapid digitalization, electrification and shifting consumer expectations, reshaping how vehicles are sold, financed and serviced. Dealerships now contend with online purchasing platforms, subscription-based mobility services and stricter emissions standards.
