Hong Kong has launched a facilitated transit service for Mainland passengers, aiming to enhance passenger connectivity and reinforce the city’s position as a global aviation hub. The “Linking the Trunk and Branch, Connecting Urban and Remote” service allows travelers to enjoy a seamless one-stop transfer experience when moving from smaller Mainland cities to overseas destinations through the city. By routing flights through the city, airlines can offer more direct connections without requiring passengers to clear customs twice.

Passengers will only need to complete a single check-in procedure, with baggage checked through directly from their departure point to their overseas destination. The same convenience will also be available for international passengers traveling onwards to smaller Mainland cities through Hong Kong. Travelers will benefit from reduced waiting periods at transfer desks, as their luggage follows the same streamlined path.

The first phase of the initiative focuses on close ties between the city and Zhejiang and Hubei provinces, rolling out two brands: “Hangzhou-Hong Kong” and “Wuhan-Hong Kong” Transfer Services. Through the “Hangzhou-Hong Kong” Transfer Services, passengers can access the world through Hong Kong’s extensive international flight network. Meanwhile, the “Wuhan-Hong Kong” Transfer Services will further connect Wuhan’s high-speed rail network with Hong Kong’s international aviation network.

Hong Kong’s Secretary for Transport and Logistics Mable Chan said the service enables the city to align with national aviation network development by linking the Mainland’s “internal circulation” network with the city’s “external circulation” international aviation network. This initiative upgrades Hong Kong from its previous role as a “super connector” to a key point in the country’s dual circulation strategy.
